If you do not have SMA but your grands do, it won’t affect you. You might be a carrier but regardless you wouldn’t have symptoms. I hope this answers your question.

Yes, you can go to your neurologist for testing. You can google a neurologist in your area who specializes in SMA. Hopefully, your question has been answered.

Ive had issues since 2020 with my legs & walking wonky…balance in walking alone…is the blood test a DNA test?? I just wonder if these issues are SMA related….

Adult onset presents itself as muscle weakness that even with exercise makes it extremely difficult to gain muscle strength. Also prone to falls without there being an external force. You can have your doctor to a blood test to determine if you might have SMA. Are you experiencing any symptoms?
