Members shared heartfelt holiday wishes centered on regaining independence and easing daily challenges with SMA, with many expressing desires for mobility aids like bath lift chairs, portable seat risers, and wheelchairs for their children, as well as smart home technology to control lights and thermostats without assistance. Several members offered practical recommendations, including the Sit-to-Stand portable chair lift which works on most chairs and sofas, with one member enthusiastically confirming it feels far more dignified than traditional basket-style lifts. A recurring theme was the emotional weight of dependence, from wanting to walk for pleasure rather than sheer determination to the constant fear of caregivers or loved ones falling ill, alongside the longing for simple freedoms that many take for granted.

I would like to make my room a smart room so I can turn my lights on and off and control the thermostat myself. It would be nice to just be able to have that much independence at least. However, I don't have the money to buy all the stuff needed for it.

LisaAnne, are you talking about a Sit To Stand Lift? I use a sit-to-stand lift. I love it. It's so much better than a lift that makes you feel like you are in a basket.

Friends , family and attendants to all be healthy. I am in constant fear of someone falling ill or current health conditions causing greater havoc. Sadly, that is not something can buy.
