Below the surface, living with spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) can mean balancing independence with caregiving. It includes challenges with work and managing the cost of care. It’s about finding love and building strong connections with family and friends. There's so much more to life with SMA than meets the eye. SMA has a wide range of severity, but outsiders may only see limits and disability. Most people don't see the achievements of mySMAteam members or understand the challenges they experience.
On mySMAteam, the social network and online support group for people living with spinal muscular atrophy, hundreds of members discuss life with SMA and share experiences and tips. Throughout the year, we will share themes we see come up time and time again on mySMAteam. We chose the image of an iceberg to represent experiences with SMA because many aspects of life with SMA aren't obvious on the surface. Please share to spread SMA awareness!
